asked the Minister of Health what has been the total expenditure on hospitals in Manchester since 31st October, 1951; and what was the corresponding figure for the period 30th June, 1945, to 31st October, 1951.

I regret that information is not available for the periods requested. The total expenditure on both capital and revenue account on hospitals in the City of Manchester since 5th July, 1948, is as follows:

Period 5th July, 1948, to 31st March, 1952=£14.2 million.

Period 1st April, 1952, to 31st March, 1959=£37.8 million.
