§ Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what schemes of economic development he is proposing for the High Commission Territories of Basutoland, Bechuanaland and Swaziland, respectively.
§ Mr. AlportI am glad to inform the House that, with the approval of the Secretary of State, the High Commissioner for Basutoland, the Bechuanaland Protectorate and Swaziland has appointed an Economic Survey Mission to conduct a general survey of the requirements and natural resources of the High Commission Territories and to make recommendations on the utilisation of the financial resources that are or might be made available to the Territories.
The Mission has been appointed in consultation with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, who have advised on its composition and on the selection of its members, and have nominated its chairman.
The Mission, which is expected to begin its work in September, will be composed as follows:
