Following discussions with representatives of the local authorities I have made and yesterday laid before Parliament revised Regulations which have the effect of increasing the maximum amounts which local authorities in England and Wales may pay their members by way of subsistence allowance. These regulations will come into force today. I understand that similar action has been taken by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
