HC Deb 29 July 1959 vol 610 c85W
Mr. Denzil Freeth

asked the Postmaster-General what plans he has for re-developing the site of the old Central Telegraph Office which was badly damaged during the war.

Mr. K. Thompson

We expect to make a start about 1963, when the site will become clear for redevelopment. The services operated in the present Central Telegraph Office building are then due to be moved elsewhere.

Possible plans for redevelopment are under discussion with the various interests concerned. The redevelopment of the site must take account, among other things, of the need for eventual replacement of the adjacent G.P.O. headquarters building and the routing of traffic in this part of the City. Any new building on this site will be in harmony with the redevelopment of the area around St. Paul's.
