HL Deb 27 July 1959 vol 218 c632WA
LORD MANCROFT

asked Her Majesty's Government whether they will intervene to prevent the erection at the corner of Wyndham Place and Bryanston Square, W.1, of a block of flats, which is not only so designed that it will clash with the surrounding Georgian architecture and ruin the fine vista up Wyndham Place but is also strongly opposed by the St. Marylebone Borough Council and the residents of the neighbourhood.

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WELSH AFFAIRS (LORD BRECON)

The question whether to give permission for the erection of this building is at present before the London County Council as local planning authority. The latest plans are, it is understood, acceptable to the Royal Fine Art Commission, but the St. Marylebone Borough Council have stated that they see objections, and the London County Council will doubtless give consideration to them and to all other relevant consideration before a final decision is taken.
