HC Deb 21 July 1959 vol 609 c109W
98. Mr. Brewis

asked the Postmaster-General what representations he has received about the bad television reception in Galloway; and what steps he intends to take to improve the same.

Mr. K. Thompson

My right hon. Friend has had representations from the following bodies in South West Scotland:

  • Kirkcudbright Royal Burgh.
  • New Galloway Royal Burgh.
  • Burgh of Castle Douglas.
  • Royal Burgh of Dumfries.
  • Royal Burgh of Stranraer.
  • Burgh of Lockerbie.

The British Broadcasting Corporation tells me that most of Galloway, except in low-lying areas, is within range of one or other of its transmitters. The Corporation will, however, bear in mind the needs of areas with poor or no reception, including those in Galloway, when planning later stages of its satellite station programme.
