§ 62. Mr. P. Noel-Bakerasked the Minister of Labour to what extent Her Majesty's Government consulted the National Union of Manufacturers and the Trades Union Congress before they decided not to ratify the Convention adopted in 1958 by the International Labour Conference, which contains an obligation to eliminate discrimination in the field of employment on the basis of race, colour, religion and other grounds.
§ Mr. WoodThe obligations that would result from ratifying the Convention would fall on the Government, and consultation with the organisations named was therefore not considered to be appropriate.
