§ 54. Sir D. Robertsonasked the President of the Board of Trade, in view of the fact that Scotland has not shared in the substantial economic recovery of Great Britain and that unemployment persists, and as the efforts of the Government have failed to attract the new industries which are required, if he will consider the appointment of a Scottish Development Corporation on similar lines to the Northern Ireland Corporation which has proved successful.
§ Sir D. EcclesNeither my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland nor I consider that any new body would in present circumstances be more effective or carry out its tasks more assiduously than the Scottish Council (Development and Industry).
