§ Mr. Wadeasked the Minister of Health, as representing the Lord President of the Council, whether he will ask the Medical Research Council to investigate the effects on the health of human beings of nitrous fumes emitted from chemical works.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithMuch research has already been undertaken on the effect of nitrous fumes upon human health. The emission of these fumes from chemical works is controlled under the Alkali Acts. Regular measurements are made of the concentrations emitted and I am informed that their dilution in the atmosphere is such that people living in the vicinity are not exposed to toxic amounts.
