§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIn April the British Resident received a memorandum signed by the President of the Afro-Shirazi Party and the General Secretary of the Nationalist Party calling for immediate self-government for Zanzibar and a round-table conference. The British Resident was not: prepared to entertain these demands and in his reply repeated his determination that the country should proceed towards self-government in an orderly and reasonable manner. I have nothing to add to this.
