Mr. Osborneasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much Income Tax and Profits Tax have been paid in the four nationalised industries, coal, gas, electricity, and transport, respectively, each year since vesting day; how much capital has been employed; and what is the approximate average taxation paid by private industry over the same years employing the same capital.
§ Mr. SimonI cannot give figures from Inland Revenue tax records about tax paid by particular taxpayers, but I would draw my hon. Friend's attention to the published accounts of the industries concerned which contain information about tax liabilities and capital employed.
