§ 72. Mr. John Hallasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if, in view of the recent reports of increasing and large-scale violence in the Kono district of Sierra Leone, he is satisfied that the police force is adequate to meet the situation, and that the penalties imposed on law breakers provide a sufficient deterrent.
§ Mr. AmeryI am satisfied that the need to maintain adequate forces in the area is fully recognised by the Governor. Substantial forces are already there and they could be speedily reinforced if necessary. The question of penalties is under consideration by the Sierra Leone Government.
