HC Deb 21 January 1959 vol 598 c36W
80. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the fact that military measures in Cyprus have not brought peace to that island, if he will now initiate an approach by non-violent methods.

Mr. Amery

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said in his statement on 10th December, 1958, we have been striving and we shall continue to strive for a political settlement which will bring peace to the island.

It is a travesty of Her Majesty's Government's sedulous pursuit of such a settlement to imply that they have hitherto been concerned only with seeking a military solution.
