HC Deb 20 January 1959 vol 598 cc6-7W
Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement regarding the possibility of developing the mica deposits of the Somaliland Protectorate.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 11th December, 1958; Vol. 597, c. 115], supplied the following information:

Deposits of mica in the Somaliland Protectorate are small and spasmodic and most of the mica is too small in size to be of commercial value. At present world prices production would be uneconomic unless it was combined with the production of some other mineral.
