HC Deb 26 February 1959 vol 600 c190W
66. Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Supply if he will briefly state the Royal Society's recommendations made to him concerning the advantages to be gained from an earth space satellite programme.

Mr. W. J. Taylor

The views of the group of Fellows of the Royal Society, whom my right hon. Friend consulted informally, drew attention to the many advantages of research with artificial satellites to physical, astronomical and meteorological science, but could not, of course, cover the question of priorities as between such research and other claims on Government expenditure.
