HC Deb 25 February 1959 vol 600 cc169-70W
113. Mr. C. Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many driving test inspectors are at present employed in the North Wales area which includes Anglesey; and how this compares with establishments elsewhere.

Mr. Nugent

There are at present six examiners in North Wales itself, six at Chester where many candidates from North Wales are tested, and 91 elsewhere in the North-Western Traffic Area.

114. Mr. C. Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many persons are on the waiting list for driving tests in each of the six North Wales counties; what is the waiting period; and how this compares with the national average.

Mr. Nugent

No records are kept of the numbers of persons waiting to be tested in each county. I am circulating below the numbers of persons waiting to be tested at each of the nine centres where residents in North Wales are normally tested. The average waiting period at these centres is 10 weeks, which is about the same as the average for the country as a whole.

The following are the figures:

Number of candidates waiting to be tested at centres in North Wales and at Chester:
Wrexham 466
Mold 493
Rhyl 539
Bangor 615
Caernarvon 144
Pwllheli 183
Newtown 273
Machynlleth 222
Chester 898
Total 3,833
