HC Deb 25 February 1959 vol 600 c161W
75. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Labour how many of the unemployed in the city and county of Aberdeen have been, and will be, absorbed by the new radar station now in process of being built near Tyrie, near Aberdeen; and if he will indicate the sex and trade of each of those now employed or to be employed on that site.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Three persons now working on the site of the radio telescope which is being erected near Tyrie up to the beginning of the contract. The present labour force consists of up to seven men who are employed by the Royal Air Force contractors at a station in the area and travel daily to the site as required. I understand that a local firm also employ two joiners and four general labourers on the site, but as the main contract has not yet been let, it is not possible to say how many men will be employed in the future.
