HC Deb 24 February 1959 vol 600 c149W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Health whether consideration is now being given to the number of nurses at present available in United Kingdom hospitals, and to their pay and conditions; and if he will make a statement on this subject.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The supply of nurses for the hospital service is kept under continuous review, and the numbers have substantially increased in recent years. Pay and conditions of service are governed by the agreements of the Nurses and Midwives Whitley Council, and I understand that the Council at present has salaries under review.
