HC Deb 24 February 1959 vol 600 c150W
Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that on 17th February, at about 9.30 a.m., no fewer than four separate accidents, involving at least 10 vehicles, occurred in fog on the Watford by-pass between its junction with A.5 and that with Spur Road, Mill Hill; and, in view of the fact that some of the drivers must have been going too fast for the conditions or overtaking when it was not safe to do so, what prosecutions are being instituted for careless or dangerous driving.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Responsibility for the investigation of road accidents in the Metropolitan Police District and for deciding whether there should be prosecutions arising out of them rests with the Commissioner of Police. It would not be proper for me to make any statement as to prosecutions that may be pending.
