HC Deb 24 February 1959 vol 600 c144W
Commander Donaldson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement on the progress of the negotiations with the Danish Government about Faroese fishing limits.

Mr. R. Allan

Her Majesty's Government have been engaged for some time past in negotiations with the Danish Government about a proposed Exchange of Notes which would modify in favour of Faroese fishermen the fishery limits laid down in the Anglo-Danish Agreement of 22nd April, 1955. The terms of this proposed Exchange of Notes are being debated today in the Faroese Lagting. Signature will depend on the outcome of this debate and on the attitude of other interested Governments, to whom the draft text has been communicated.

As the draft text is somewhat long and refers to an annexed map, I have arranged for copies to be placed in the Library of the House. Her Majesty's Government hope that the proposed Agreement will be generally accepted as fair and reasonable.
