Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Minister of Labour how many men employed at Douglas Castle Colliery, Lanark, have been declared redundant this year; how many have been offered re-employment by the National Coal Board within and beyond daily travelling distance from their homes, respectively how many of these men are, or were, resident in the Douglas area; and how many have accepted jobs involving removal of their homes.

126, of whom 86 were resident in the Douglas area. Ninety-seven men have accepted other employment with the National Coal Board, 53 within and 44 beyond daily travelling distance of their homes. The latter figure includes 35 men who are prepared to move their homes. Another 22 men are being considered for re-employment with the Board.
