HC Deb 24 February 1959 vol 600 c137W
82. Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the estimated number of cigarettes smoked in the United Kingdom for 1958; and what were the corresponding numbers for 1951.

Mr. J. Rodgers

Official estimates of the number of cigarettes smoked in the United Kingdom are not made, but I understand that estimates of the weight of cigarettes sold to the public are published by the Tobacco Manufacturers Standing Committee, and that they show an increase of one-fifth between 1951 and 1958.
