HC Deb 23 February 1959 vol 600 cc110-1W
45. Mr. Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether, during his forthcoming discussions with Mr. Khrushchev, he will seek an assurance that the Soviet Government will ensure that, in accordance with the Potsdam Agreement, no known Nazi will be allowed to hold any leading position in the military, judicial, local government, or civil service, in Eastern Germany, on condition that Her Majesty's Government gives a similar assurance so far as West Germany is concerned and that this agreement will be included in any subsequent peace treaty affecting Germany.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I have been asked to reply.

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave him on 17th February.
