HC Deb 23 February 1959 vol 600 cc119-20W
83. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he is aware that there is considerable anxiety about the delay in proceeding with the portions of the London-Yorkshire Motorway in Leicestershire, that the plan was submitted by the Leicestershire County Council in October, 1958, that the problems of links and bypasses differ very little from those of the original Charnwood Plan and that the additional work required has been projected already; and whether he will now give instructions for the work to proceed speedily, in view of the report which he has now considered.

Mr. Watkinson

I am well aware of the anxiety about this section but I cannot proceed without a thorough re-examination of the whole problem. As I explained in reply to the hon. Member last Monday, the consulting engineer has only just agreed a report with the County Surveyor and this is being considered as quickly as possible.
