§ Mr. Pitmanasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of prosecutions regarding betting shops for the year 1958.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI have been asked to reply.
I regret that the information is not available for England and Wales as a whole. In the Metropolitan Police District the number of prosecutions in respect of premises of all kinds in which illegal ready-money betting took place contrary to the Betting Act, 1853, was 246. It is thought that not more than twelve of these premises were shops, but precise information is not available.
