HC Deb 19 February 1959 vol 600 c95W
Captain Orr

asked the Postmaster-General what is now the number on the waiting list for telephones in Northern Ireland; and how this compares with previous years.

Mr. K. Thompson

At the 31st December last there were 2,757 outstanding applications for telephones in Northern Ireland of which about half were under inquiry or in course of being met. This compares with 3,519 in 1957, and 4,766 in 1956. We installed 5,756 new telephones in Northern Ireland in 1958, and hope to be able to install a similar number in 1959.
