asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement on his recent visit to British Somaliland.

I visited the Somaliland Protectorate from 5th-10th February. I toured the principal towns in the Protectorate, where I met and had discussions with tribal and political leaders and others. Towards the end of my visit I made a statement on the future development of the territory, the main part of which was circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT on 9th February, 1959, in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Essex, South-East (Mr. Braine).
