§ 30. Mr. Gibsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, arising from his consideration of the need for stronger rules for the control of clubs in the London area, he will initiate discussions with the interested parties concerned with a view to the drafting of future legislation to meet the social situation which is created by the easy way these undesirable clubs can be started, and to bring them under the same kind of controls as are applied to public houses.
§ Mr. RentonMy right hon. Friend will bear the hon. Member's suggestion in mind, but, as he said in reply to his Question on 27th January, he can hold out no prospect at present of Government legislation on this controversial topic.
§ 38. Sir F. Medlicottasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is now taking to obtain evidence and statistics as to the extent to which children and young people are supplied with intoxicating liquor in registered clubs.
§ Mr. RentonMy right hon. Friend is advised that it would not be practicable to obtain reliable statistical evidence on this subject.
