HC Deb 18 February 1959 vol 600 c63W
107. Mr. Hunter

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what was the number of road accidents and casualties at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings in 1958; and what were the comparative figures for 1957.

Mr. Nugent

During 1958 there were 906 accidents on zebra crossings. One hundred and ten persons were killed and 842 seriously injured. Comparative figures for 1957 were 862, 93 and 814, respectively. The increase in casualties on zebra crossings was more than balanced by the fall in casualties occurring within 50 yards of the crossings.
