HC Deb 18 February 1959 vol 600 c64W
109. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what factors led him to fix 2s. 6d. as the appropriate increase in the airport passenger service charge.

Mr. Watkinson

The proposed increase in the passenger service charge (unchanged since its introduction in 1952) will assist in reducing the deficit arising from the operation of State aerodromes in the United Kingdom by producing extra revenue of about £220,000 per annum. The increase was fixed at 2s. 6d. per passenger as the amount which could reasonably be imposted upon the traffic at present.
