asked the Minister of Labour what was the number of persons registered as unemployed in the county of Lanark, excluding Glasgow, at the latest convenient date and at the corresponding date for the two previous years; and in which industries these persons had their last employment.

Mr. Iain Macleod

At 12th January, 1959, there were 14,580 persons on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Lanarkshire (excluding Glasgow) compared with 6,673 at 13th January, 1958, and 6,734 at 14th January, 1957. I am having a table prepared showing the principal industries in which these persons were last employed and I will send it to the hon. Member.
