HC Deb 18 February 1959 vol 600 c49W
39. Mr. Bevan

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what negotiations there have been with the Government of Iraq concerning the participation of Iraq in the Bagdad Pact.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

None. Iraq is still legally a member of the Pact, but has taken no part in its activities since the revolution of 14th July. The Government of Iraq have been informed that other Pact members do not wish to influence its decision in any way, and that the move of the Pact Headquarters from Bagdad to Ankara was provisional.
