HC Deb 18 February 1959 vol 600 c56W
85. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what time is now expected to elapse before H.M.S. "Dreadnought" will be ready to run her trials.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

It is not the practice to give forecasts of when ships will be ready for their trials.

86. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty how far it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to await the results of the trials of H.M.S. "Dreadnought" before starting the construction of other similar vessels.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

No decision has yet been taken on a future building programme for nuclear submarines. The decision would not necessarily depend upon the results of the "Dreadnought" trials.
