HC Deb 17 February 1959 vol 600 c37W
108. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why Government restrictions on dollar imports into the West Indies since 1947 have operated to the disadvantage of Canada as corn-pared with the United States of America.

Mr. Amery

The dollar restrictions imposed by West Indian Governments do not discriminate between Canada and the United States of America.

I am, however, aware that West Indian imports from the United States have shown, in recent years, a greater increase than those from Canada.

A major cause of this development has no doubt been the great increase in United States investment leading, in turn, to increased imports of United States machinery and other goods.
