HC Deb 17 February 1959 vol 600 cc29-30W
91. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware that large transparent plastic tents are being used in Canada to enclose house-building construction, thus enabling work to continue during bad weather; and if, in order to reduce costs, he will advise local housing authorities to consider the use of similar equipment in this country.

Mr. Brooke

Climatic conditions in Canada, especially in winter, necessitate the use of special building methods and equipment which would not be applicable in the United Kingdom. A small number of builders over here are using the equipment to which the hon. Member refers. My information is that more experience is required before it can be seen whether its general use in this country would be economic.
