HC Deb 16 February 1959 vol 600 c14W
Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the estimates of the numbers of full-time students in the universities for each of the years 1959–60, 1960–61, and 1961–62 on which he bases his proposal to increase the recurrent grants for these years.

Mr. Simon

The total number of full-time students in the universities is expected to rise to at least 110,000 by 1961–62. It would be difficult to give estimates for the intervening years since the rate of increase depends on various factors (e.g., the coming into use of new buildings).
