HC Deb 16 February 1959 vol 600 c8W
77. Mr. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will ask the Committee of Investigation, appointed to inquire into allegations and charges that 596 jurists who served Hitler's Special Courts are now back in office, to inquire into the case of Dr. Ernst Kanter, the former Judge-General in the Nazi Wehrmacht, Chief Justice in Nazi-occupied Denmark, and now presiding judge in the Third Senate of the West German Supreme Court in Karlsruhe.

Mr. R. Allan

It is for the Federal German Government to decide what inquiries are to be carried out. They have, however, informed us that Dr. Kanter's case has been investigated and that no evidence has been found to justify his removal from the German judiciary.
