HC Deb 13 February 1959 vol 599 c260W
Sir F. Medlicott

asked the Paymaster-General what research is going on under the aegis of his Department in connection with the decontamination of coal gas by reducing the carbon monoxide content and thus providing an additional safeguard against loss of life from gas poisoning.

Mr. Maudling

The gas industry is working on the development of catalytic processes to reduce the carbon monoxide content of existing town gas; and on new processes of gasification which will produce town gas with little or no carbon monoxide.
