§ Mr. R. A. ButlerAn account of my long-term plans for local prisons, of which Strangeways is one, will be found in paragraphs 57 to 64 of the White Paper. As regards the immediate need for improvements in accommodation and equipment, which I fully recognise, I have authorised a programme of improvements (including the provision of a new workshop and improved sanitation) expected to cost £137,000 over the next four or five years.
