asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps have now been taken in Tanganyika to give Africans greater opportunities of becoming skilled workers at wage rates comparable to those paid to European and Asian workers.

Last year 1,593 Africans were receiving full-time training in Tanganyika to become skilled workers. Many of these have the opportunity of entering Government service, where they are graded and paid according to the qualifications they have obtained.
