HC Deb 12 February 1959 vol 599 cc246-7W
104. Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for War to what extent dropped metatarsal arches are accepted as exempting a man from National Service how far such a disability is regarded as preventing a man from undertaking any form of military duty; and how many men are now serving who suffer from this disability.

Mr. Soames

Dropped metatarsal arches do not necessarily render a man unfit for service in the Army, even in the most active Arms. It is a question of degree. There is no record of the number of cases among men now serving.
