§ 63. Mr. Hastingsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether, in view of the desirability of stimulating and assisting the production and consumption of fruit in Great Britain, he will institute an inquiry as to the desirability and practicability of the institution of a fruit marketing board for hard and soft fruit, respectively.
§ Mr. John HareSchemes for regulating the marketing of produce, which can include the activities the hon. Member has in mind, may be made under the Agricultural Marketing Act, 1958. It is open to producers to promote schemes, which would then be subject to examination and inquiry by the Government in accordance with the Act. I would therefore regard a special preliminary inquiry as unnecessary.
