HC Deb 12 February 1959 vol 599 cc237-8W
89. Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what plans he has for the expansion of secondary education in Bechuanaland.

Mr. Alport

As I said in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Rugby (Mr. J. Johnson) on 6th March, 1958, there are two schools in the Bechuanaland Protectorate which offer full secondary education. A Colonial Development and Welfare grant of £10,000 has recently been made to the London Missionary Society to assist them to construct a junior secondary school to accommodate 100 to 150 pupils of both sexes. When this school is operating, it may later develop into a full secondary college.
