HC Deb 11 February 1959 vol 599 c213W
105. Mr. Woodburn

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what steps he is taking to recruit more staff in order to ensure that Turnhouse is kept open after the normal times for landing; and what is the position in these after-hour periods for emergency landings at Turnhouse.

Mr. Watkinson

The operational staff at Turnhouse is at present provided by the R.A.F. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Air has agreed to look again into the possibility of extending the facilities provided to enable late arrivals to get into Turnhouse. When Turnhouse is closed no aircraft may land there but in emergency alternatives are available on a 24-hour basis at Leuchars, Renfrew and Prestwick.
