§ 124. Mr. Pageasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food by how much, as a percentage, the weekly expenditure per head on food has increased since 1951 and at what figure it now stands; and by how much, as a percentage, retail prices of food have increased during the same period.
§ Mr. GodberTotal civilian expenditure on food in the United Kingdom in the third quarter of 1958, the latest available period, is estimated at £1,179 million, or about 35s. 6d. weekly per head. This was an increase of 43 per cent. over the corresponding quarter of 1951. The best comparable figure for retail food prices is an increase of about 33 per cent.
