HC Deb 11 February 1959 vol 599 cc212-3W
119. Mr. Slater

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is aware of the number of accidents that have taken place in Durham County on pedestrian crossings during the hours of darkness since January, 1957, and which might not have happened if the crossings had been better illuminated; and what progress has been made in devising improved illumination of these crossings.

Mr. Nugent

It is impossible to say how many of the accidents which have occurred after dark on pedestrian crossings in Durham County during the last two years would have been avoided had the crossings been better illuminated; as regards the second part of the Question I would refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend gave to the Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Barry (Mr. Gower) on 28th January.
