HC Deb 11 February 1959 vol 599 c218W
Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Health what provision is made for patients suffering from mental illness in Barnsley and district; and what proposals he has in mind for improving the service.

Mr. Walker-Smith

In-patient treatment is at present provided at Storthes Hall Hospital, Wakefield, and two outpatient clinics are held weekly at the Beckett Hospital, Barnsley. The Regional Hospital Board propose to provide a psychiatric unit at one of the general hospitals at Barnsley to be linked with Middlewood Hospital, and to improve the service in South Yorkshire generally by providing units at Doncaster, Conisbrough and Rotherham.
