HC Deb 11 February 1959 vol 599 cc214-5W
114. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what steps he has taken to avoid overlapping of the work of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee and London Travel Committee, respectively.

116. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what changes in the terms of reference of the London and Home Counties Advisory Committee have been made as a result of the appointment of the London Travel Committee; and what steps he has taken to ensure that the duties of the two committees do not result in duplication of work.

Mr. Watkinson

There has been no change in the terms of reference of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee since I appointed the London Travel Committee. A large part of the work of the London Travel Committee is concerned with rail travel and with the staggering of working hours. As regards road matters, it should be easy to avoid duplication, because both Committees have the same chairman, two of my officials and four other members serve on both Committees, and their secretaries are in close touch.

115. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what personal experience members of the London Travel Committee have gained, and intend to gain, of rush-hour conditions on Central Line and other congested underground trains.

Mr. Watkinson

Between them, the members of the Committee can speak with personal experience and authority on all the problems they are examining, including congestion on the Underground.
