HC Deb 11 February 1959 vol 599 c217W
Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government to institute separate plebiscites for the Southern and Northern Cameroons to decide their future status and association, following the period of trusteeship under the United Nations.

Mr. J. Amery

It is the view of Her Majesty's Government that the future of the Northern and Southern Cameroons should be determined separately. Following the recent report by the United Nations Visiting Mission, the future of the British Cameroons is to be considered in the United Nations later this month. I think it would be unwise to anticipate these discussions.
