HC Deb 10 February 1959 vol 599 cc192-3W
Mr. Snow

asked the Minister of Health why conversion grants for cars are only allowed to persons suffering from double leg amputations or from other disablement causing total or almost total loss of the use of both legs, but are not given to persons suffering from disablement of one leg due to poliomyelitis and who therefore cannot drive cars in the orthodox manner; and whether he will cause the case, details of which have been sent to him, to be reviewed.

Mr. R. Thompson

Assistance with the conversion of a private car to hand control is given only to those patients who are eligible to be supplied with a power-propelled tricycle but who prefer instead to use their own car with adapted controls. My right hon. and learned Friend will review the case, details of which the hon. Member sent him, and will write to him about it.
